I'm linking this from Mischa's blog, or at least re-telling it, only because this is a game I play for hours every Dragon*Con, one I hope to moderate next Dragon*Con, and one of my favorite party games period. I own it (which should tell you something about this game, because I am not as huge a board game geek as Mischa or even Jackie is.)
Mafia (I've only ever heard of a variant called Are You a Werewolf, or just Werewolf) is a social game in which one side tries to win over the other in order to protect themselves. This article is about the game coming under investigation from a school district because parents are becoming overly concerned with the fact that their precious snowflake preschoolers are being exposed to, in Mischa's words, "anything even remotely disturbing." I'd think that if the game taught anything, rather than being a way to pass the time, it would be about cooperation and making friendships and alliances, but I'm already reading way too much into this so I'm going to stop here.
In other related news, everything else is going just hunky-dory. I'm beginning to send out Christmas cards in the mail, so please let me know if you'd like to receive one. I do have a master list of addresses on my computer, but I know I'm not including everyone.
