You're young until you're not, you love until you don't, you try until you can't, you laugh until you cry, you cry until you laugh, and everyone must breathe until their dying breath. No, this is how it works. You appear inside yourself. You take the things you like, and try to love the things you took, and then you take that love you made and stick it someone else's heart, pumping someone else's blood. --Regina Spektor

I've been reading a LOT in the past few weeks; on the average, I'll finish a novel in two or three days (unless it happens to be by Neal Stephenson, and then it takes me about a week to two weeks).

So far, from what I can remember, I've read both Jurassic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton (the former I last read when I was in sixth grade); Limit of Vision by Linda Nagata, which came highly recommended by [livejournal.com profile] perfectcherry (but is apparently not the best of her books), and I tried to claw and fight my way through Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson, and though I like his writing, that book was like trying to read through a theoretical physics textbook. I'm thinking about picking it up again soon, because I made it to the second part in the book, but we'll have to see.

I've read almost everything the library has to offer by Stephenson, and my favorite of his is likely Cryptonomicon; all the reviews of things I've read by this author point me to reading things like Neuromancer so I might have to find that, too.

There are some books I just couldn't bring myself to slog through: Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, for one; I got about a third of the way in before I couldn't stomach any more, and anything by Charles deLint just isn't worth my time.

Right now I'm reading The Diamond Age, Stephenson's first book; I also have Perdido Street Station by China MiƩville. I think both of these might have to be renewed, since I'm only halfway through one and haven't even started the other. Allegedly [livejournal.com profile] theuglyknight bought me the second book as something he knew I'd like to read (and I do trust most of his literary decisions as a fellow NOCCA writer), but ... well, let's just say that with typical Dave scatterbrained-ness I haven't ever seen that book. I'd like to read Stephen Colbert's book, too, but I don't want to check out any more books than I'm capable of reading in two weeks' time; I knew I was a fast reader, but I'm apparently not THAT fast.
